Accelerate is for academically-able, and ambitious Year 12 and 13 students, who potentially wish to pursue a career in architecture or subjects linked to the built environment.

Accelerate was developed and established
in 2012 by Open City, in partnership with The Bartlett School of Architecture.

Over the last six years over 200 students have taken part and benefited from the programme, with 70 per cent of Accelerate participants securing conditional offers to study architecture and related subjects at universities including University College London (UCL), the University of Cambridge and The University of Manchester.

This film captures the essence of the programme and participant’s ambitions.

If you would like to take part in the next Accelerate course which runs from September 2019 please email

Accelerate runs from September to May every year. Find out more information about the programme to learn how young people from diverse backgrounds can study architecture and play a part in shaping their city. If you would like to take part in next year's programme please email

UCL takes the need to broaden our intake of students very seriously. Diversity of background and perspective are essential in creating an excellent student group and experience. We work with Open City’s Accelerate programme to help tackle the barriers to entry to university and the architectural profession.

Dean of The Bartlett

Accelerate is a free programme generously supported by UCL and L&Q.  Each year we would like to ensure the programme is accessible to young people who will benefit the most. If you would like to make a donation or to support the programme please email

Open City's learning programmes would not be possible without the support of local authorities, sponsors and supporters. Find out more about our event sponsors for 2018, or contact us, for more information on sponsorship opportunities.
