What are London’s best bits of buildings? We want you to scour London’s magnificent townscape in search of the best building ‘elements’ in the city. The best façade, the best corridor, the best door, the best staircase and so on. Why? Because London’s best buildings – like all great architecture – are assemblages formed of elements, that come together to make a functional, inspiring whole.
Look at architecture in a fresh way and get involved in our ‘Elements’ photography competition.
Post your Elements photos onto our Instagram @openhouselondon
Make sure you tag #OHL18, the building, and include the tag for the element you’ve found (see list, right)

Winners will be announced through the Open House Instagram after the festival, don’t forget to tag us to be in with a chance to feature on our page
Open House will be offering prizes to the best photograph posted on Instagram for each of the 13 elements and we will also be giving away a prize for the best photo of the competition, judges to be announced soon! Follow us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

We are really happy to announce the winners of the Elements Photography Competition which was judged by Open City Chief Executive Rory Olcayto, Foster + Partners Senior Partner Michael Jones and Photography Steve Lavers. There were some really wonderful submissions and we loved seeing what elements the public managed to find during their Open House weekend.

1st Photography Prize
A 2-night weekend break in partnership with Shakespeare’s England and Exclusively Warwickshire celebrating the film adaptation of Sarah Waters’ best-selling novel THE LITTLE STRANGER out in cinemas 21st September. The break will be at either Brassknocker Cottage, Binton or Little George, Henley in Arden (prize winner to choose which property). A continental breakfast hamper will be provided and you’ll receive an Afternoon Tea voucher for 2 in Hathaway Tea Rooms, Stratford-Upon-Avon. The prize is subject to availability and must be booked by the end of 2018 and taken by 30 September 2019, entrants must be over 18 and no transport will be provided to and from the location. The photograph will be published on Open House social media and website.

Individual Element Photography Prize
For each of the elements the winner will receive a copy of Living with Buildings by Iain Sinclair. The book explores the relationship between Health and Architecture, published by Wellcome Collection and Profile Books. #livingwithbuildings. The photograph will be published on Open House social media and website.

'The Little Stranger' - Pathé + Shakespeare's England
THE LITTLE STRANGER, is Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson’s first film since his acclaimed movie, Room and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, Will Poulter and Charlotte Rampling. Critics are calling it “a captivating mystery… one of the year’s finest films”.

The film tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, in rural Warwickshire, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants - mother, son and daughter - are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.
