Green Sky Thinking Launch 2018
Last Thursday evening we launched the Green Sky Thinking programme that kicked off the discussion around our 'people first' theme. Hosted at possibly the best piece of people first city in London, it’s safe to say the location or perhaps their resident animals stole the show. Feilden Fowles and Oasis Farm Waterloo kindly allowed us access to their hidden oasis for the evening.
With an architectural studio set amidst a working farm that also serves as retreat for children is a meanwhile use for this tiny sliver of land in Waterloo. The site, owned by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital is a modern wonder: a genuine piece of ‘open city’ that the public can access day-to-day, sharing space with commercial ventures that add to the buzz of the neighbourhood. And was the venue for the Green Sky Thinking launch party on May 10th.
The project, which landed Feilden Fowles with a RIBA award, saw the architects work with two charities, Oasis and Jamie’s Farm (the latter run by Feilden’s brother Jamie), to masterplan the leftover plot on the edge of a 60s-built housing estate behind Waterloo railway station. Dan Pearson, seconded to the project as part of the community outreach programme of the Garden Bridge Trust – one of the few positives to emerge from that doomed-project designed the garden. Everything on site is planned with future uses in mind: indeed the demountable office structure has only recently been extended.
Thank you to everyone who attended the evening. Green Sky Thinking could not happen without your support and expertise. We hope to see you throughout the rest of the week!
