Introduction

Open City is a charity dedicated to making architecture and neighbourhoods more open, accessible and equitable. Our mission is to empower communities to learn about, experience and have a role in shaping places where they live. We collaborate with people from diverse communities to widen access to spaces, neighbourhoods, knowledge and careers they are often excluded from. We do this by creating educational and cultural programmes discussing, celebrating and opening up historic and contemporary buildings and landscapes.

City Curators is a new programme, funded by City Bridge Trust, to support the voice and leadership of young people from underrepresented backgrounds to curate new thematic strands as part of the renowned Open House Festival. Young people who have been mentored through Open City’s Accelerate programme will develop their curatorial voice.  They will be working in teams to select and curate places open within the festival that are of significance to them and in doing so, develop their confidence and experience and gain paid reward for their hard work, thereby building their portfolio.

Open City is seeking a freelancer to act as part time Project Coordinator to set up, launch and support the City Curator programme to successfully attract 15 young people to deliver strong festival strands at the same time as personal development.
