Press Release: Rightmove to partner with Open House Festival

Open House Festival announces new headline partnership with Rightmove celebrating London’s remarkable contemporary and historic housing.

London’s Open House Festival has announced a major collaboration with the UK’s biggest property website Rightmove, creating free public tours of homes across the capital from Modernist flats to Georgian townhouses.

The  multi-yearpartnership will enable the Open House Festival to better include private homes of all shapes, styles and era in its two-week city-wide programme. Launching in 2022 to mark the festival’s 30th anniversary, the partnership will focus on foregrounding the stories and dwelling of Londoners across all 33 boroughs of the city.

The 2022 Open House Festival will open on Thursday the 8th of September and run for two weeks including hundreds of free events. The festival organisers are encouraging Londoners of all backgrounds to sign up to include their own homes in the programme or to volunteer for the festival to help reopen London following the pandemic starting.

Founded in 1992, the much-loved annual Open House Festival enables hundreds of thousands of visitors to explore buildings, landscapes and neighborhoods that are normally closed to the public. Around eight million people have taken part in the festival since it began with over half saying that Open House helped them learn new things that changed the way they view the city.

Zoë Cave, chief curator of the Open House Festival said, “London has an extraordinarily rich history of domestic architecture from iconic high-rise towers and pioneering social housing estates to eccentric mansions and converted boats. This new partnership will enable the festival to include far more private homes in the festival across every corner of the city. You don’t have to live in an architecturally outstanding home to include it in Open House, everyone with a story to tell is welcome in the festival programme.”

Sarah Brown, Head of Brand at Rightmove said: ‘The Open House Festival has done an outstanding job of inspiring people to experience new areas of London by opening the door to homes and historic landmarks across the capital. As the number one property destination in London and Great Britain, with everything from converted churches to modern houseboats available, we’re in a unique position to help increase awareness of the festival further, whilst also enabling people who may be considering moving in London to discover new parts of the city they could live in. We’ll be working with Open House Festival to encourage more people than ever from all backgrounds to get involved in the festival and showcase all the amazing and varied parts of this vibrant city.”

Many famous buildings have been included in the Open House Festival in previous years including Number 10 Downing Street, The Lloyds Building, Dawson’s Heights Housing Estate and Battersea Power Station. The London Open House Festival leads a network of 50 festivals dedicated to opening up buildings and neighborhoods all over the world in New York, Santiago, Zurich, Lagos, Osaka and beyond.
