Open City celebrates Young City Makers in Westminster, Brent, Earl’s Court and Birmingham
Open City has been celebrating the conclusion of this year’s Young City Makers programme for primary schools with a series of awards ceremonies at Westminster City Hall (24 June), Brent Civic Centre (2 July), and the Empress Museum in Earl’s Court (8 July) – and with a further upcoming event in Birmingham this Friday (11 July)
We were thrilled to see so many happy primary school students, parents, and educators coming together to recognise the brilliant work and achievements of 1,074 young people across three boroughs, in addition to our students in Birmingham. Joining us were Lord Mayor Dimoldenberg of Westminster, Lord Mayor Hack of Brent, and Councillor Gwen Grahl of Brent.
Education Director Zoë Dennington said: ‘As a new member of the team it's been such a pleasure to go along to celebration events for Young City Maker programmes in Brent, Westminster and Earl's Court over the past few weeks, with the final event taking place in Birmingham on Friday.
‘The impact of the programme really comes across in the children's excitement at presenting their models and sharing the thinking behind what they created, as well as hearing how the process of collaboration has inspired new thinking for the participating architects. We look forward to supporting these partnerships as they continue to grow and flourish next year.’
Open City would like to extend a special thanks to our sponsor Earl’s Court Development Corporation for helping to make our programmes possible this year. If you’re interested in sponsoring or supporting any of our education pathways, please be in touch at education@open-city.org.uk
