This August, the Brunel Museum plays host to this free show exhibiting the work of 2021 year’s graduating Accelerate students.
Accelerate is a pioneering design education and mentoring programme supporting young Londoners from under-represented backgrounds to pursue careers in city-making professions. The students’ work, which this year responded to a theme of Fragments and the City, through a series of drawing, modeling, live-build, landscape, casting and design projects, will be exhibited from 11am to 5pm on Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th of August.
Over the last decade, around 300 hundreds of students have taken part in the programme, with 70% going on to study architecture or other city-making subjects at university.
Each student cohort follows a programme of practical workshops to develop observation, drawing, design and model-making, building skills, contacts and portfolios while exploring the social purpose of architecture. The students also take part in a mentoring programme with city-making professionals and a design brief at its core.
