About Open City

Open City is a charity dedicated to making London and other cities more open, accessible and equitable. We help citizens of all backgrounds to understand and engage with how the urban landscape is made, and have a role in shaping its future.

We achieve this in multiple ways:

Open City runs a rich public programme opening up dialogue about architecture and the city in creative ways including events, publications, courses and tours throughout the year. Alongside this we create digital content such as films, podcasts and social media, that further opens up the conversations about the city and its future.

Our international network of festivals, Open House Worldwide, unlocks physical buildings and important debate in cities from New York to Lagos for large celebrations of architecture and city-making. In London, the Open House Festival is now in its 30th year and is one of the largest cultural events in the country giving around 250,000 access to buildings and ideas they are normally locked out of while opening the city and the stories behind it.

Open City also runs a number of pioneering education programmes equipping children and young people, particularly from under-represented backgrounds, with skills and routes into careers in city making and design.

Job description – Digital Content Creator

Open City is recruiting for a Digital Content Creator. This new role will contribute to a number of programmes across the charity by creating and tracking engaging video, audio and visual content that drives engagement with big conversations about architecture and urban issues among professional and public audiences.

The successful candidate will work across the charity’s programmes including our podcasts, films, social media campaigns and live online events in close collaboration with Open City’s small staff team and volunteers. You will lead and support various multimedia projects including hands-on production and editing of audio and video material, and using the content you and other Open City colleagues create to engage audiences.

The successful candidate will be ready to work on and develop Open City’s existing formats (which include short documentary film tours, dynamic 360 video bike tours, weekly audio-only podcasts and mixed media social media posts) and create innovative new formats that deliver awesome audience experiences, effectively engaging citizens with urban issues.

Alongside content production and supported by the wider team, you will lead Open City’s efforts for using digital content to engage with our audience across the charity’s platforms. With 100,000 followers across our social media platforms and a further 100,000 email newsletter subscribers, there is significant opportunity to reach a large audience with engaging and purposeful material. The successful candidate will therefore understand the use of online analytics to track the success of content-led campaigns and use this knowledge to improve the charity’s output over time.
