Now extended, the Open House Festival will run from 4th - 12th September 2021. The festival will see around 1,500 volunteers give up a few hours of their time to enable a building to open, a community group to give a tour or a children’s activity to run as part of the festival.

If you’d like to be part of the largest architecture festival in London and assist one of hundreds of sites to open up to almost a quarter of a million visitors we’d love to hear from you.

What’s involved

As a volunteer you will be helping building owners/representatives to open their buildings to the public. In a lot of cases, the buildings would not be able to open without volunteer support.

You only have to commit one morning or afternoon on one day during the event, and you will be able to choose a slot from a list of buildings which have requested support.

You also don't have to be a guide or a steward, you can volunteer to help in our office during August sending out guides and volunteer packs, at one of our sales hubs during the weekend selling t-shirts and bags, or as an Area Rep during the weekend where you can see lots of different sites all in one borough!

Why should I volunteer?

97% of our volunteers would recommend the experience to a friend.

Helping to make Open House happen is a rewarding experience. It offers new experiences and skills, as well as providing a great opportunity to learn more about architecture and the built environment. To help you prepare for volunteering, you will receive the following in your volunteer pack:

- a volunteer 'Can I Help' sticker to wear during your volunteer time slot and a volunteer priority badge which allows you to jump the queues at most buildings over the weekend (exceptions apply)

- invitation to the closing party held at one of our participating buildings
