Join Open House for a socially-distanced walking tour discovering the designs and people behind the extraordinary landscaped spaces of the City of London
This fun and engaging walking tour led by expert guide Paul Lincoln — director of creative projects and publishing at the Landscape Institute — will delve into the unique and ever-growing network of small green spaces which frame the modern Square Mile.
The City of London is home to more than 200 gardens, parks, churchyards and public squares. Recent additions include the landscaped One London Wall Place and the award-winning Barbican public realm transformation led by Nigel Dunnet.
Earlier this year, the landscape within Chamberlin, Bon and Powell's iconic Golden Lane Estate was officially listed by Historic England along with several other high-quality post-war environments across the country.
This socially-distanced walking tour will examine the role of landscape architecture and landscape workers in creating London's globally-recognised financial district. It will also explore the areas long history of pocket parks and discuss the important role plated by local authority in driving foward innovation and stewardship.
With Covid-19 creating a surge in active travel across the capital, the tour will examine how the City’s streets and public realm spaces are being reconfigured to encourage cycling and walking, and how Covid-19 has changed the way we use landscape generally in the Square Mile.
