Stewardship Awards Categories

Outstanding Estate Management
Great estates managers lead complex buildings and open spaces, working with numerous designers, contractors and users to deliver sustainable, vibrant places in which workers and structures are well cared for. This award is given to the manager of a building or multiple buildings in recognition of outstanding work over a five or more year period. The award can be given to an individual, company or team, employed by a land owner or operators such as a housing association or university campus.
Material and Resource Management
Recognising ambitious delivery of circular economy principles and circular design in built projects. Winners will have managed whole life low carbon strategies and demonstrate long term resource planning. The award will take into account embodied and in-use carbon of structures, reuse of materials and components, inventive retrofitting tactics, material supply chain management and consideration of how the project impacts and positively intersects with the wider economy.
Post-occupancy in Practice
Awarded to projects where considered post-occupancy evaluation has led to successful and informed adjustments following the completion of a new or newly refurbished building. These adjustments will have been made in the pursuit of social and environmental sustainability.
Open Space Stewardship
This award recognises the value of continual care and cultivation required to ensure an enduring and successful public open space. It is open to the custodians of open green space such as parks and gardens, managers of hard and wet landscapes such as market squares, canals and streets and welcomes entries by local authorities, private groundskeepers, community groups or others.
Social Stewardship
Meaningful long term engagement with the local community, working with residents, businesses and community stakeholders to build trust in new projects, is often the most important factor in the ongoing success of any urban project. This award recognises strategic leadership in community engagement which enfranchises local voices and evolves with time.

The Open City Stewardship Awards are supported by a network of professionals from across the built environment sector.
PARTNERS
Peabody are one of London’s largest and oldest housing associations and draw on nearly 160 years of history and expertise championing social housing in London. They are the latest stewards of Thamesmead New Town, which includes a landscape including 240 hectares of blue and green space.
Construction Declares is a global coalition uniting all strands of construction and the built environment. Construction Declares is active in 27 countries with over 1,000 signatories among British architecture practices alone.
Public Practice is a not-for-profit company founded in September 2017 by the Greater London Authority and seed funded by six founding Partners from across the public, third and private sectors.
