Donation to support young people experiencing disadvantage in memory of architect Eliza de Silva

Open City is grateful to acknowledge a donation in memory of the architect Eliza de Silva.

The donation of approximately £6,000 is taken from the proceeds of sales at the recent exhibition of kinetic sculptures by Phineas Harper, Into The Woods which ran at Host of Leyton in early March.

In de Silva’s memory, the donation will be used by Open City to support and platform young people experiencing forms of disadvantage at the start of their architectural careers.

Where possible, it will in particular be used to champion young women from muslim communities who face intersecting challenges within the profession.

Originally from Kuala Lumpur and having studied architecture at the Welsh School of Architecture and the Bartlett, de Silva passed away one year ago from a rare type of cancer and is greatly missed by all who knew her.

Phineas Harper said: “I met Eliza studying architecture in Cardiff where we lived together as undergraduates. She was an outstandingly original designer, accomplished musician, instinctive explorer and endlessly kind friend who cared deeply for those around her and who is sorely missed. I hope this donation will provide support for those in need and will honour Eliza’s continuing legacy among those whose lives she touched.”
